From Business Support to Senior Operations: Emma’s Apprenticeship Journey

Emma, now a Senior Operations Manager at Local Pensions Partnership Administration (LPPA), is a fantastic example of how an apprenticeship, mixed with hard work, passion, and a love for learning, can lead to a thriving career.

Starting 10 years ago in a Business Support role in the Retirements Team, Emma has taken on a variety of roles across the organisation since, from core administration, to working closely with employers as an Employer Engagement Manager, and later as a Client Relationship Manager.

As part of her development, Emma recently completed her Level 5 Operational Manager apprenticeship, completing with a Distinction – a fantastic achievement that’s helped her grow even further as a leader.

She says: “The apprenticeship for me was a real labour of love. It definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone, but it was definitely worth the hard work. The sessions at the College gave me the opportunity to meet new people and speak to those in different industries which really help me with my work.”

And now, Emma is giving back by supporting other apprentices at LPPA Pensions who are taking the same course; sharing her experience and helping others succeed is just as important as her own journey. She says, “It’s so rewarding to support others who are where I once was.

“Helping them navigate the apprenticeship, build confidence, and realise their potential means we’re not just growing individuals, we’re strengthening the whole organisation.”

Now, Emma leads the Bereavements and Retirement teams, making sure everything runs smoothly and efficiently. Her deep knowledge of retirement planning helps her spot opportunities for improvement, bring in positive changes, and make sure members and clients get the best possible experience.

Looking back on her journey, Emma says: “I’ve been incredibly lucky to grow my career here at LPPA. Every role I’ve had has taught me something new, and I feel proud to now lead teams that support people through really important stages of their lives. Knowing we make a real difference is what motivates me every day.”

Her tutor, Giulia D’Ambrosio, has seen her progress up close and could not be prouder. She says,
“Emma was an absolute joy to work with. She’s driven, thoughtful, and always focused on finding the best way forward. Watching her grow into such a strong leader has been incredibly rewarding.”
