BRICKLAYING (TROWEL OCCUPATIONS) - LEVEL 2 NVQ

This NVQ is designed for those already working in the bricklaying trade who want to gain a formal qualification to recognise their practical skills and experience.

It provides the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to carry out your work to industry standards, supported by an experienced assessor.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will complete a range of units that reflect the key tasks in the trade. To gain the qualification, you must complete:

Mandatory Units:

  • Setting out to form masonry structures in the workplace
  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
  • Erecting masonry structures in the workplace
  • Conforming to productive working practices
  • Conforming to general health, safety and welfare

Optional Units (at least one required):

  • Repairing and maintaining masonry structures
  • Placing and compacting concrete in the workplace
  • Installing drainage
  • Erecting thin joint masonry or masonry cladding
  • Installing and forming specialist masonry elements

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

You will build a portfolio of work-based evidence, including observations by your assessor. You must demonstrate your competence against National Occupational Standards for bricklaying.

You will be supported throughout by an industry-qualified assessor.

HOW MUCH WILL THIS COURSE COST?

Students aged 24+ may be eligible for funding. If you’re employed in the construction sector and meet funding criteria, this NVQ may be available at no cost. Please speak to our Adult Recruitment team / Employer Engagement Team for advice. 

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

On successful completion, you’ll have a recognised Level 2 NVQ that can support applications for a CSCS Skilled Worker card. You may also choose to progress to a Level 3 NVQ to advance your career into more specialist or supervisory roles.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You must already be working in a relevant role within the construction industry. There are no formal entry qualifications, but you will need access to site-based or domestic construction evidence.
