From Asylum Seeker to Inspiration: Belal’s Journey of Education and Growth

Belal, an adult student at Preston College, has been featured on the cover of the Adult Course Guide, in recognition of his extraordinary educational journey and achievements.

Arriving in Preston just four years ago as an asylum seeker, Belal faced the significant challenge of settling into a new country, language and culture. Determined to build a better life for himself, he enrolled onto an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) course at Preston College. His success in this course paved the way for him to advance onto the vocational Digital Skills course. His academic progress has been nothing short of exceptional, and his growth in confidence has been equally impressive.

Belal shares, “Preston College’s guidance and encouragement, along with its supportive and inclusive atmosphere, allowed me to continue my studies with confidence.”

Asma, ESOL Tutor, says: “What truly sets Belal apart is his ability to use his own experiences to support and inspire others facing similar challenges. He refuses to let his circumstances define him and demonstrates through his hard work that anything is possible.”

She added, “I am incredibly proud of how far he’s come and all that he has achieved. I am confident he will continue to positively impact both the college and the community as he works toward a successful future in the UK.”

We are thrilled to celebrate Belal’s many accomplishments, including his recent appointment as Premier League Community Captain for Preston North End Football Club – an incredible honour recognising his commitment to making a difference beyond the classroom.
